STATE REP. STEVE OGDEN TO ADDRESS A&M-KINGSVILLE AUGUST GRADUATES

(KINGSVILLE, August 5, 1996) - Rep. Steve E. Ogden of College Station will address the graduates of Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, during commencement ceremonies in Steinke Physical Education Center at 910 W. Avenue B in Kingsville.

The 275 prospective candidates for diplomas include 137 bachelor's degrees, 132 master's degrees and six doctorates.

Ogden, a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1990. He is the Vice Chairman of the House Higher Education Committee. He is also a member of the House Appropriations Committee and serves as the chairman of its Subcommittee on Education.

Following graduation from the Naval Academy with a degree in foreign affairs, Ogden continued his education at the Naval Nuclear Power School where he was trained as a nuclear engineer. He left the Navy as a lieutenant commander in 1982 and moved to Bryan-College Station where he became active in the oil and gas business.

Ogden attended the Texas A&M University College of Business graduate school and received his MBA from A&M in 1987. He is currently self-employed as president of Ogden Resources Corporation.

A&M-Kingsville President Dr. Manuel Ibáñez will confer the degrees on graduates and will recognize retiring faculty member Dr. Julia A. Smith of the Department of Language and Literature.

Jozannah Quintanilla, president of the Student Government Association, will present Distinguished Student Awards to Irma Linda Salazar of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences and Feng-Luan Chou of the College of Arts and Sciences.
