HUMAN SCIENCES STUDENTS HONORED

(KINGSVILLE, April 3, 1996) - - The Department of Human Sciences honored some of its outstanding students during the Human Sciences Day Recognition Luncheon in the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Student Union Building, April 2.

The department recognized students who were awarded scholarships for the 1996-1997 academic year. Shauna Schueling of Hondo was the recipient of the Kappa Omicron Nu Scholarship. Selection is based on scholarship, research, leadership and membership in the local Kappa Omicron Nu chapter.

Jenean Ward of Corpus Christi was awarded the Faye Dehn Bible Scholarship. To qualify for this scholarship, the candidate took human sciences courses at A&M-Kingsville, completed a minimum of one semester at the university and maintained a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Lisa Cervantez from Benavides received the Mamie and Annetta Bailey Scholarship, which requires the recipient to finish a minimum of one semester of work at A&M-Kingsville, including courses in Human Sciences.

Receiving two scholarships was Marisa Ramos of Laredo. Ramos was awarded the Charles and Maydine Roslyn Scholarship for the second time and the Ruth W. Gauldin Dietetics Scholarship.

Receiving the Opal Owen Younts Endowed Scholarship was Marisela Barrientes of Kingsville. It requires the recipient to complete at least one semester of work at A&M-Kingsville, including courses in human sciences.

The Kleberg County Family Community Education Scholarship was awarded to Lela Radell of Corpus Christi. Conditions of the scholarship include the completion of human sciences courses at A&M-

Kingsville and a minimum of one semester's work at the university.

Maria Carrera of Quito was the recipient of the Human Sciences Alumni Association Scholarship. To qualify for the scholarship, candidates must complete at least one semester at A&M-Kingsville, including courses in human sciences.

Other students recognized during the luncheon were Diane Klosterman of Alice, who received the Ralph Lanier Memorial Scholarship which requires participants to be a junior with a minimum grade point adverage of 3.0 and Swaney Saliceti of San Antonio who received the Joe Cusack Scholarship.

For the 1995-1996 academic year, Paula Martinez of Falfurrias was recognized as "Outstanding Student Leader" and as Outstanding Fashion and Interior Merchandising Student. Other 1995-1996 "Outstanding Students" acknowledged were Irma Salazar of Edinburg (Child and Family Studies) and Gina Valdez of Corpus Christi (Food and Nutrition Science).

The Child Development Club was recognized as the Outstanding Student Club in the department of human sciences for the 1995-1996 academic year.
