The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Scott Anthony Jones, will perform a three-day concert tour of South Texas featuring the world premiere of Jess Langston Turner’s Nothing to Fear, Nothing to Doubt.

“This stunning new work was commissioned by a consortium of 14 college and university bands from around the world, organized and led by A&M-Kingsville bands. The composer will be present at each performance to speak about his inspiration and compositional process,” symphony director Scott Anthony Jones said.

The Wind Symphony is joined by Professor Jim Warth and his saxophone students in a performance of another new work by Thomas Doss, Spotlights for Saxophone Quartet and Concert Band. The program also includes John Williams’ fiery Scherzo for X-Wings from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Percy Grainger’s elegant Colonial Song, and Ginastera’s famous "Danza Final" from Estancia. In addition to the full band, special musical features include Dr. Matt Hightower on solo tuba, and four members of the percussion section playing Higuita! on a single 5-octave marimba.

The tour begins Tuesday, February 21, with a concert for all high school band students in Corpus Christi ISD, hosted by Veterans Memorial High School. The Wind Symphony will then travel to Harlingen High School for an afternoon performance.

Day one of the tour concludes with a 7 p.m. concert at the Sharyland Pioneer High School Auditorium, 10001 N. Shary Rd., in Mission, TX. This free concert is open to the public.

“We encourage our Rio Grande Valley family, friends, and prospective students to take advantage of this concert close to home,” Jones said.

The tour continues on Wednesday, February 22, with an early morning performance for students at Hidalgo High School, followed by an afternoon concert at Simon Rivera High School in Brownsville.

The final concert, also free and open to the public, takes place at Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville. Hanna High School is located at 2615 E. Price Road.

The final performance, for the Kingsville campus and community, will be held in Jones Auditorium at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 23.
