Texas A&M-Kingsville spring enrollment sees six percent jump

The spring enrollment numbers at Texas A&M University-Kingsville have jumped up six percent over spring 2011. There are currently 6,309 students attending classes this spring semester at A&M-Kingsville. In 2011, the spring enrollment number was at 5,952.
Manuel Lujan, vice president for enrollment management, said a couple of factors are responsible for the university’s increase this spring.
“Our retention rate for freshmen between fall and spring is up four percent over last year at this time,” he said. “This can be attributed to two reasons. One, the mean high school percentile rank for our entering freshman class was up four percent this fall compared to fall 2010 and more importantly, a number of retention initiatives were started during fall 2011.”
Lujan said another reason the spring enrollment was higher was simply that the university attracted and enrolled more new students this semester as compared to spring 2011.
The university’s spring enrollment has been on an upward climb for the past four years, jumping up more than 1,100 students since spring 2009 when 5,178 students were enrolled. Numbers rose again in 2010 when 5,508 students were attending classes at A&M-Kingsville.
