Adria Palacios Vasquez is a certified public accountant in private practice with her father, Adelfino Palacios Jr. In her spare time she also is a full-time lecturer for the finance and economics department in the College of Business Administration at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She received her award at a reception held Thursday, April 14. During the award presentation, Dr. Jackie Thomas, Regents Professor and director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, read some examples of the good work that lead to Vasquez receiving the award over the other nominees.
“Her teaching technique of lecture and practice examples on the board, followed by group work, helps students learn to solve accounting problems,” “Her ability to bring accounting problems to a level that all majors (not just accounting majors) can understand is a great teaching advantage,” and “Students in the income tax class enjoyed her class so much that they started a petition to have her teach the advanced income tax class in the fall semester of 2011.”
Other nominees were Erik Jones, lecturer in history; Jerome M. Tymrak, lecturer in agronomy and resource sciences; Dr. JooHyun Lee, lecturer in music; and Judy Bloomquist, lecturer in health and kinesiology.
