The Student Government Association (SGA) at Texas A&M University-Kingsville has organized students into one of the largest volunteer contingents in the city as they participate in The Bigger Event Saturday, March 26.
In 2010, over 200 students participated in The Bigger Event doing community services throughout the city of Kingsville. This year the students will be working at Dick Kleberg Park, the Boys and Girls Club of Kingsville and the Brookshire Pool among other locations throughout the city, said Dustin Schwandt, a junior social work major who is the chair of the Student Organization Forum Committee and a member of the SGA.
The group will be getting started in the courtyard of the Memorial Student Union Building (MSUB) where they will meet at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast and assignments. After some motivational talks, volunteers will be taken to their assigned work locations to arrive by 8:30 a.m. Activities will last until about noon when the students will be brought back to campus for barbecue near the intramural fields.
The Pre-Optometry Professional Society will be joining in The Bigger Event and will accept donations of used eye glasses prior to the event. They will have a drop off location set up Saturday in the MSUB courtyard.
