Calling all fans of Anime—Texas A&M University- Kingsville will be hosting the first GATO Con—a game, art, trade and otaku convention—Friday and Saturday, February 18-19 in the Memorial Student Union Building.
The event kicks off at noon Friday and will go on through 11:30 p.m. that same day. Activities on Saturday are scheduled for 8 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Cost per day is $15; $10 for A&M-Kingsville students or high school students with a valid student identification.
Convention organizers---student clubs Gamerz Elite and Otaku Anime Club— said the idea behind the convention is to provide college students with a gaming/anime convention on campus, since similar conventions held in larger cities are often difficult for college students to attend. GATO Con will include game rooms, table top games, anime viewing rooms, cosplay, a rave, contests and workshops. Vendors will also be available. Participants in Cosplay are asked to dress appropriately.
