There are two more films left in the Hispanic Film Showcase that is part of the Hispanic Heritage events at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Born in East LA, starring Cheech Marin will be shown Tuesday, Oct. 19, and El Norte is featured Tuesday, Oct. 26. Both events begin at 6 p.m. in room 219AB of the Memorial Student Union Building. Popcorn and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.
Born in East LA tells the story of Rudy (played by Marin) who is an American of Mexican descent. He is caught up in an immigration raid on a factory. Deported to Mexico as an illegal immigrant, he has no way of proving that he is in fact an American citizen and is forced to rely on his cunning to sneak his way back home.
El Norte tells the story of two young teens who flee political and economic repression in Guatemala for the United States, only to face equally trying situations.
