Kingsville Symphony Orchestra to Host Wine-Tasting Fundraiser

By Dr. Wayne Gunn
KSO Board Member and Texas A&M-Kingsville Professor Emeritus

KINGSVILLE (October 28, 2009) — The Kingsville Symphony Orchestra (KSO) will host a wine-tasting party from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Bombay Lounge & Grill, 6314 Yorktown Blvd., Corpus Christi. This event is a fundraiser for the orchestra. To make reservations, call coordinator Shirley Waage at 361-592-3391. KSO is asking for donations of $25 per person. Since the orchestra is a designated nonprofit organization, such donations are tax deductible.

Eddie Aguilera, events manager for the Kingsville Convention and Visitors Bureau, is coordinating the event. Lee Gwozdz, music director of the Corpus Christi Cathedral and conductor of the upcoming King Ranch Holiday Spectacular Concert, will be the guest of honor. During the evening, he will discuss the upcoming concert and the positive benefits that KSO has on Kingsville and the surrounding area.

There will be a silent auction during the evening with some unique items including the chance to conduct the Star Spangled Banner at the July 4 concert, Whataburger for a year, taquitos for a year and performing one of the special instruments in the concert selection Variations on a Kitchen Sink by Don Gillis.

The Bombay Lounge & Grill, a new, upscale restaurant in Corpus Christi owned by David Berlanga, will provide hors d'oeuvres for the event.

Nancy KingSanders, president of the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra Board, said the orchestra is fulfilling an important mission by providing an artistic and cultural experience for people of all ages in Kingsville and neighboring communities. “KSO is filling the music education void left from a lack of an orchestra program in the public schools and at Texas A&M University-Kingsville,” she said. “Strong local support from KSO patrons helps the orchestra continue its mission.”

The King Ranch Holiday Spectacular Concert will be the day of the King Ranch Annual Ranch Hand Breakfast, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.
