KINGSVILLE (April 22, 2008) — The University Women’s Club at Texas A&M University-Kingsville have established a scholarship endowment of $20,000 to assist returning students whose higher education was previously interrupted. The group also added $3,000 to kick-start the new program this fall.

Members of the University Women’s Club have worked for several years, through fundraisers like the university afghan and garage sales, to build the scholarship fund to this level. The endowment will provide for one $1,000 scholarship each academic year to a non-traditional undergraduate student from 13 surrounding counties who is returning to school after an interruption. Qualifying students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Although applications have closed for the 2008-09 school year, future candidates may apply online at https://tamuk.scholarships.nelnet.net during open application season beginning in the fall.
