College of Education continues winning record with State Board for Education certification

KINGSVILLE (June 9, 2006) — The College of Education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville received a rating of “accredited” under the Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP).

It’s a rating issued each year by the State Board for Educator Certification, based on the performance of A&M-Kingsville candidates taking the exam to become certified Texas educators. Students of A&M-Kingsville’s College of Education have been successful enough in their certification exam to keep the program “accredited” for some 25 years, according to Dr. Mike Daniel, professor and dean of the College of Education.

“We’re very pleased with the rating,” said Daniel. “We far exceeded the minimum standards needed to achieve the ‘accredited’ status. It’s a real testament to our faculty and what they do.”

In the time that the ASEP has evaluated A&M-Kingsville’s College of Education, it has never been placed on a probationary status or been under review.

Although the results were positive ones, Daniel said he and the college will be working toward even stronger pass rates for next year.
