University research award recipients for 2006
KINGSVILLE (January 27, 2006) — Twenty-eight proposals were submitted to the University Research Council for review and recommendation for the University Research Awards. Ten proposals scoring in the top 50% of the rankings were recommended for funding.
This year, the recipients were:
Rajat Sethi, assistant professor, and Indra Reddy, dean of the College of Pharmacy, $13,800 for "Role of Oxidative Stress and Skin Membrane Barrier Disruption in Ozone Induced Cardiovascular Alterations."
Michelle Garcia, assistant professor of animal & wildlife sciences, $9,899 for "The Role of Leptin in the Developing Ovarian Corpus Luteum.”
Rena Quinton, assistant professor of human sciences, $9,900 for "Perceptions of Healthy and Unhealthy Foods among Older Hispanics in South Texas: A Pilot Study."
David Pledger, assistant professor of biology, $9,656 for "Host Cell Regulation of Transposable Element Activity in Mosquitoes."
Xiaoliu Chi, assistant professor of chemistry, $10,000 for "A New Design for High Quality Organic Single Crystal Growth towards Next Generation Devices."
Jaehyung Yu, assistant professor of physics and geosciences, $9,900 for "GIS-based Flood and Storm Surge Simulation and Damage Assessment of Corpus Christi, Texas."
Priti Verma, assistant professor of finance, $9,796 for "Noise Trading and Stock Market Volatility."
Linda Challoo, assistant professor of educational leadership and counseling, $8,736 for "Assistive Technologies in Education: Students with Special Needs."
Kai Jin, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, $8,735 for "Cyberinfrastructure: Information Mining in Agile Manufacturing System Implementation."
Cheng Chen, assistant professor of mathematics, $9,578 for "Estimating the Internet Traffic Measurements and IP Network Reliability: A Bayles Approach."
