Children's play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also will premiere performance for remodeled Jones Auditorium Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.

KINGSVILLE (February 7, 2006) — The classic Roald Dahl story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been adapted for the stage by Dr. David Deacon, professor of theatre at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and will be the children’s play for the 2005-2006 theatre season.
The public is invited to attend a one-night only preview performance Sunday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in the newly remodeled Jones Auditorium on campus. Admission is $1.
Following the public preview performance, a week of morning performances for area schools takes place Feb. 13-17.
Jones Auditorium, which last had a face lift in 1980, has had extensive work done to the stage rigging, lighting and sound systems, as well as improvements for persons with disabilities. A new ramp for wheel chair accessibility has been constructed on the south side of the building. In addition, restrooms also have been upgraded, a system for flying curtains and scenery has been installed, as well as state-of-the art sound and lighting.
Deacon directs the production along with A&M-Kingsville students Michael Verderber and O’Ryan White. Stage manager for the production is Rick Saenz.
The cast is made up of community members and Texas A&M-Kingsville students. They include:
Garrett Henke as Charlie; Barry Berryhill as Willy Wonka; Clifford Moore as Grandfather Joe; Carolyn Fees as Grandma Josefina; Kim Guerra as Charlie’s mother; Christi Lopez as the Chocolate Elf; Edgar Torres in the role of Adolph Ficklegruber; Chris Ramos plays the part of Augustus Gloop; Gabriel Ruiz as Mrs. Gloop; Veruca Salt is played by Sarai Rice; Christine Albright plays the role of Violet Beauregarde; Austin Dale plays the part of Mike Teevee; Jennifer Jackson portrays Mrs. Teevee; Gabe Villarreal plays the part of Mr. Salt; Lisa Vela plays Mrs. Beauregarde; Head Oompa Loompa is played by Phillip Anderson; remaining Oompa Loompas are played by Kelly Grubb, Alanis Moor, Kaylie Windham, Abby Anderson, Silicia Garcia, Heide Langscheid, Heather and Hannah Lawson, Matthew Hewitt and Caitlyn Falcon.
