Students host V-Day Campaign

KINGSVILLE (February 9, 2006) — A group of women from Texas A&M University-Kingsville has scheduled several activities in conjunction with the production of the play The Vagina Monologues. Known as the V-Team, they will have a booth in the Memorial Student Union Building on Tuesday, Feb. 14, also know as V-Day.

During that time, they will distribute brochures and other informational material explaining V-Day and how it connects to the theatre production, scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, March 6-8, in Jones Auditorium.

The production of The Vagina Monologues is sponsored by the university’s communications and theatre arts department and benefits from the $5 admission fee will go to the university’s Women’s Center.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. It is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.

Through V-Day campaigns, local college students produce benefit performances of Eve Ensler’s production to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups. In 2005, over 2,500 V-Day benefit events were presented around the world.
