Sibs and Kids weekend brings family to campus
KINGSVILLE (February 7, 2006) — Students, faculty and staff at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will have an opportunity to host their younger siblings or children during the first Sibs and Kids Weekend, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 14.
This two-day event sponsored by the Office of Student Activities gives the younger brothers and sisters of students and children of students, faculty and staff the opportunity to experience college life. Children ages five to 15 are welcome. There is no charge for the activities.
A variety of activities like movies, bowling, cartoons and crafts have been scheduled. There is no charge for the events.
Siblings of the same gender may stay with residence hall students with the permission of the roommate. It is the host’s responsibility to find appropriate overnight accommodations for siblings of the opposite gender.
It is expected that all hosts will take full responsibility for their sibling or child during the weekend and accompany them to the activities.
Check in will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Cue Shack in the Memorial Student Union Building (MSUB). Arts and crafts, games and dinner will be served up in the Cue Shack from 5 to 7 p.m.
The movie, Chicken Little, will be shown at 7 p.m. in room 100 of the Biology Earth Sciences Building.
Saturday’s activities begin with carnival games and snacks at 10 a.m. in Turner Bishop Hall. At noon, there will be open bowling and lunch and at 1:30 p.m., open swimming, both at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
Organized activities end with the women’s and men’s basketball games at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively, in the SPEC. The Javelinas take on Tarleton State University.
