Professor and Chair of music department Dr. Paul Hageman named Regents Professor

Paul Hageman

KINGSVILLE (February 3, 2006) — Dr. Paul Hageman, chair of the music department and professor of trombone at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, was granted the designation of Regents Professor by The Texas A&M System Board of Regents Thursday, Jan. 26.

The A&M System Board of Regents established the Regents Professor Award program in 1996 to recognize and honor faculty members who have made exemplary contributions to their university or agency, and to the people of the State of Texas. Since its adoption, 77 faculty members from universities, agencies and the health science center across the System have been recognized with this award.

“ I am humbly honored to be named a Regents Professor,” said Hageman. “This award is a tribute to the music faculty and many students, present and past, who I have had the privilege of working with. I could not have won this award without their inspiration, dedication, and willingness to strive for excellence.”

Award recipients will be designated as a “Regents Professor” and will retain this title for the duration of their service/employment within the A&M System. Recipients will receive a $9,000 stipend, payable in the amount of $3,000 for three consecutive years as a non-base award, funded from each respective institution or agency.

"Dr. Hageman’s recognition as a Regent's Professor is the highest honor our faculty can receive in the Texas A&M University System,” said Dr. Rumaldo Z. Juarez, president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.  “This prestigious award is earned by the hard work and commitment that faculty have to their students and their professional scholarship interests driven by the needs of our society.”

“Dr. Hageman has changed the world of music in South Texas through his contributions as a leader in the field of music, his contributions to the advancement and promotion of jazz in South Texas , and most of all, for setting a new level of excellence for our music program at Texas A&M-Kingsville.  It is a great honor for Texas A&M University-Kingsville to have Dr. Hageman as a recipient of this prestigious award and in the ranks of our faculty.  We are very proud of his accomplishments."
