University earns 15 awards from American Advertising Federation-Corpus Christi Chapter

KINGSVILLE (February 23, 2006) — Texas A&M University-Kingsville claimed 15 awards at the 2005 ADDYs® Award Show Friday, Feb. 17.

Sponsored by the Corpus Christi chapter of the American Advertising Federation, the ADDYs® recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.

Selection of the most creative entry in each category is effected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. In each category, a Gold ADDY® is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the competition. Entries that are also considered outstanding and worthy of recognition receive a Silver ADDY®, followed by the Bronze ADDY®. The number of awards given in each category is determined by the judges, based on the relative quality of work in that category.

Texas A&M-Kingsville received one Gold ADDY, six Silver ADDYs and eight Bronze ADDYs.

The Gold ADDY was received for Milestones, the 2005 President’s Report, under the category of “Annual Report, Four-color.” The report was produced by the Office of Publications, with assistance from the Office of Public Relations.

Silver ADDYs were received in the categories of “Brochure, Four-color” (for Viewbook and
Discovery and Scholarship
); “Special Event Material, Campaign” (for Building on Our Traditions Capital Campaign); and “Photography, Color” (for “Flag Girls,” “Majorette” and “Printmaking Class” photos).

Bronze ADDYs were received in the categories of “Special Event Material, Announcement” (for Modeling & Decision Support for Environmental Systems); “Consumer Campaign, Flat” (for Search Piece); “Web Sites, Consumer, HTML/Other” (for Texas A&M-Kingsville web site); “Web/Online Campaign” (for Building on Our Traditions web site); “Logo” (for Building on Our Traditions logo); and “Photography, Color” (for “Javelina Statues in the Snow,” “Dancer” and “Tower at Night” photos).

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local ADDY® Awards is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie for recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local winners compete against other winners in one of 14 district competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national ADDY® Awards competition.

Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Gold and Silver ADDY winners will now be judged in district competition.
