KINGSVILLE (March 15, 2005) — The 2004-2005 Texas A&M University-Kingsville theatre season continues with David Mamet’s Speed the Plow, a satire of Hollywood and American culture.
Show times for the play are Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, room 123 of the Drama/Arts building. Admission is $3.
This play contains strong adult themes and is recommended for an adult audience.
Speed the Plow focuses on two Hollywood executives, Bobby and Charlie, with a winning script and a movie star ready to act in it. On the day before their big pitch meeting with a studio head, Bobby spends the night with a secretary named Karen who convinces him that an unconventional book would be a better idea to sell. Charlie and Bobby find themselves at loggerheads on their big day, arguing for the idea that will take them to the big time.
Dr. Patrick Faherty, associate professor for communications & theatre arts, directs the production. Melissa V. Moreno, senior theatre/management major from Kingsville, serves as stage manager. The cast is made up of the following:
Jesse Reyna, junior theatre/history major from Alice, plays Bobby Gould. Reyna was seen previously in Biloxi Blues and No Exit.
Griselda Gonzalez plays the part of Karen. A sophomore biology/theatre arts major from Driscoll, Gonzalez was last on stage in the one-act play Comadre.
Gabriel Ruiz, a senior theatre arts/music major from San Antonio, plays the part of Charlie Fox. Previous theatre credits for Ruiz include acting in Our Town and Retiring the Boo!, writing Confessional and directing Freakshow Theatre II.
