Javelina Welcome Schedule of Events

Javelina Welcome Check-in and Registration 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Student Union Building, First Floor Lounge
All new students, both residential and commuter, must check-in and register for Javelina Welcome. You will receive your information packet and orientation schedule as well as your group assignment.
Move-In Day 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Students living on campus may check in throughout the day at their residence
hall. Look for the “Move Crew” to assist with your moving
needs.
Lunch (on your own) 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Memorial Student Union Building
The Tejas Room and SUB Galley will be open. Look for Javelina Welcome
specials at all locations.
Mother & Daughter Tea 2 p.m.
Memorial Student Union Building, Room 219
All mothers and daughters are invited to attend a welcome reception hosted
by the Inter-Sorority Council. Come as you are and enjoy iced tea, punch
and light refreshments. We’ll share tips on how to have a great
semester and get the most out of your time at A&M-Kingsville.
Opening Session 3 p.m.
Memorial Student Union Building, Ballroom A
All students, parents, families, and guests are warmly invited to attend
the official welcome to our University community.
College Social 4 p.m.
New students and families will have an opportunity to meet the college
deans. If you are unsure of your college please consult the list of majors
handout in your welcome packet.

Reunite with your Hoggie Days color group! This is your chance to see
your Orientation Leader from Hoggie Days and other new students.

Steinke Physical Education Center
You’ve never done anything like this before! Be prepared for high
energy fun and activities as you meet new members of your college class.
Comedy Club: 10:30 p.m.
Student Union Building, Ballroom A
Come see the performance by Rob Paravonian —it will leave you gasping
for air! Rob brings to the stage the best of both worlds: he's a top notch
comic with impeccable timing and he's a solid musician with extremely
funny songs. He not only takes his audiences on a hilarious ride, he takes
comedy to the next level. Admission is free.

Community Service Project 9 a.m. – Noon
Meet in the Student Union Building, Ballroom A
Most students want to earn college degrees so that they can make a difference
in the world. Community service is a key component of leadership and citizenship
and the TAMUK family is extremely active in the life of the Kingsville
community and surrounding areas. Someone in your life helped you reach
this point; now it is your turn to repay that favor by helping those in
need.

The Ultimate Road Trip: Campus2Career 1:30 p.m.
Student Union Building, Ballroom A
The transition into life as a college student is an exciting, yet often
complicated process. This program gives students confidence so they can
survive their first college year and use their entire college experience
to DRIVE themselves toward future career success. Students will learn
about choices they will have to make at “stops” along the
way.
(Making It Count, 2005).
Survival Workshops (Mandatory Attendance) 2:30 p.m. – 5:30
p.m.
Schedule is by group; consult the handout in your information packet
These required workshops will provide all new students with the necessary
information they need as new members of our community. Be sure to have
your card punched at each program. Cards will be collected and verified
at the end of the third session. Each session is 45 minutes long and there
will be a refreshment break at 4:00 pm.
Workshop A: "Javelina Spirit: It's connection to health and wellness"

It's all about choice. You can be a successful college student if you
choose to be informed, make smart decisions, and be health wise.
Workshop B: Campus Safety: A Community Responsibility
Memorial Student Union Building Room 221
This session will cover important information you should know about your
personal safety, security, and rules of the campus road.
Workshop C: Nobody Told Me about THAT!
Memorial Student Union Building, Room 219
Receive your copy of the student handbook and learn about your rights
and responsibilities as a TAMUK student. If it’s in the handbook,
you need to know it. The Dean of Students will review important information
about student life at our University.

Dinner 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Dive into the SUB 9 p.m. – Midnight
Student Union Building
Explore the SUB! Come and dive into a Microblast at Freshens, an expresso
at Java Lina or a turkey sandwich at SUB Connection. While enjoying your
late snack, participate in the pool and table tennis tournament in The
Cue Shack Room. Also, you can challenge another student in a Playstation
2 tournament, spades or other board games while enjoying music. Freshens,
Java Lina and SUB Connection will be open as the Student Union welcomes
students to a new semester.

Wal-Mart Madness Midnight – 2 a.m.
Shuttle bus will stop in parking lot between Bishop and Martin Halls
Join in the unique shopping experience at the Kingsville Wal-Mart. It’s
the place to see and be seen at any time of the day or night. The free
shuttle will take you to the store where you can enjoy TAMUK specials
and buy those things you’ll need in your residence hall room.
Sunday Religious Services are held at a variety of locations in the Kingsville
area. Please consult your information packet for a complete list of places
to worship.

Went on the Campus Tour…Now I am Lost! 1 p.m. – 3
p.m.
Student Union Building
Walk around the campus, class schedule in hand, with a tour guide. You
will be able to locate all your classrooms so you won’t be lost
when class begins. Sign up (space is limited) at the SUB Information Desk,
located on the first floor.
Aiming at A’s – How to Make the Grade at TAMUK 1:30
p.m.
Location assigned by group number; check handout in information packet
A college degree can be the key to opening new doors of opportunity for
you and your future. Your success in that endeavor depends on your commitment
to fulfill that dream. This session is designed to provide you with the
skills you will need to make your graduation a reality. This session will
teach you how to develop a plan, set your goals, review study strategies
and study skills, and be a successful college student.

Relax and enjoy a night at the movies before classes begin. The Campus
Activities Board presents The Longest Yard. See Adam Sandler in this comedic
remake of the 1974 version. Join CAB for the first night of their semester
film series. Admission is free.
