KINGSVILLE (January 23, 2004) — The Texas A&M University-Kingsville cheer team placed sixth in the 2004 College Cheerleading National Championships held in Orlando Jan. 16-19, said their sponsor Romy Timmons.

The cheer team submitted a videotape of a cheer and their skills which included tumbling, stunting, pyramids and basket tosses. They ranked third in the tape entry in the All Girl Division II category that automatically placed them in the semi-finals, Timmons said.
“The team did a great job and have kept the program in the national ranks for another year,” Timmons said. “Although our competition is over, the girls will resume their cheerleading duties including cheering at basketball games, judging tryouts for junior high schools and high schools, doing community service and participating in other campus events.”

The Javelina cheer team placed fourth in the nation in the first year they competed in the All Girl II category. In 2002 and 2001, they competed in the Small Coed division.
“I am proud of this year’s team. This achievement takes commitment, hard work and desire and this year’s Javelina cheer team possesses all these qualities and more,” Timmons said.
