Dr. Jennifer Ratchford Sholtis, Horn

Dr. Jennifer Ratchford Sholtis, Associate Professor of Horn at Texas A&M University-Kingsville since 1996, is an Arkansas native and graduate with a B.M. in Horn Performance and a B.A. in German from the University of Arkansas. As an Elizabeth Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Sholtis studied with Michael Höltzel at the Music Hochschule in Detmold Germany. She continued her studies with Kristin Thelander, earning a M.F.A. and a D.M.A. in Horn Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. Dr. Sholtis was adjunct professor of horn at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa prior to coming to Kingsville. Outside of her work with the TAMUK horn students, Dr. Sholtis is active as a clinician, adjudicator, and performer. She performs regularly as a soloist, member of the faculty brass quintet, founding member of the chamber ensemble Cecilia Circle, and principal horn of the Victoria and Laredo Symphonies. Her former teachers include Dr. Kristin Pederson Thelander, Michael Höltzel, Frøydis Ree Wekre, and Dr. Timothy Thompson.
