Darin Hoskisson
joined the music department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in
2006 as Assistant Professor of Music Theory.
He recently completed his Ph.D. in Music Theory at the University
of Oregon where he wrote his dissertation, “The Grundgestalt
and
Network Transformations in the Late Choral Works of Anton Webern.”
He was also the recipient of the University of Oregon’s
“Outstanding
Graduate Scholar in Music” award in 2006. He received his
Master’s Degree in Music Theory from Louisiana State University.
His thesis
there focused on Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34. He
also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Bassoon Performance from
Idaho
State University.
Darin has presented papers at
several Regional SMT conferences. At the 2005 Texas Society for Music Theory
conference held
in Denton Texas, his paper on Webern’s “Das Augenlicht” was awarded the “Colvin
Award” for the outstanding student presentation at the
conference. His dissertation was also recently nominated by the University of
Oregon School of Music to be considered for the 2007 Council
of Graduate Schools/University Microfilms International Dissertation Award. His
current research interests continue to be Webern’s 12-tone
music as well as music from the other Second Viennese School composers. He is
also working on 19th Century music from Sweden,
specifically the symphonies of Franz Berwald.
