Dr. Jason Kihle is currently Assistant
Professor of Percussion and Assistant Band Director at Texas A&M
University-Kingsville. He earned
a Doctor of Musical Arts degree
in Percussion Performance with a secondary emphasis in Wind
Conducting in 2008 from the University of
Northern Colorado, where
he also obtained his Master of Music degree in Percussion
Performance. He also holds a Bachelor of Music
Education degree
from the University of North Dakota. Prior to completing his
graduate degrees, Dr. Kihle taught elementary music and middle
school band in Arizona and Colorado.
He has studied percussion with Mike Blake, Jim White, Gray
Barrier, Michael Spiro, and Ruben Alvarez. Dr. Kihle studied conducting with
Gordon Brock, Kenneth Singleton, and Alan McMurray. Dr. Kihle's article "The
Drum and the Dance" on drums in the Renaissance was
published in Early Music
Colorado Quarterly in 2007.
Dr. Kihle won the Southard Competition at UNC for his
performance of Merlin on marimba. He has performed at the Montreaux Jazz
Festival in Montreaux, Switzerland, and with the Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra,
Colorado Wind Ensemble, and Greeley Philharmonic
Orchestra. In the summer of
2008, Dr. Kihle played drumset for the first amateur performance of Hairspray
at the International Thespian
Festival in Lincoln, NE.
He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, Music
Educators National Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association, and Pi
Kappa Lambda.
