Oscar Diaz, Jr. was appointed Adjunct Lecturer of Trombone in 2005. He has been an assistant band director at United South High School in Laredo, Texas for four years, where he directed the jazz band and instructed low brass, grades 6th to 12th He holds Bachelors Degrees in Trombone Performance and Music Education from Texas A&M University at Kingsville and a Masters Degree in Trombone Performance from The University of Northern Colorado. Upon receiving a South Texas Graduate Fellowship, Mr. Diaz is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. His principal teachers include Ron Welborn, Paul Larson, Wanda Avila, Ed Avila, Dr. Paul Hageman, Dr. Nathaniel Wickham and Dr. Nathaniel Brickens.
Mr. Diaz has performed with the Fort Collins, Longmont, Cheyenne and Victoria Symphonies of Colorado, Wyoming and Texas. He was a freelance trombonist in the northern Colorado area for a year and a half performing with numerous jazz bands and brass quintets. He has recorded with the The Dave Camwell Group and the University of Northern Colorado Lab Band I, both as a jazz trombonist. He has performed in numerous master classes with artists such as Ralph Sauer and the Canadian Brass. Mr. Diaz has been featured as a soloist with the Laredo Wind Ensemble, United Independent School District Directors Jazz Band, Texas A&M International University Symphonic Band, the University of Northern Colorado Trombone Choir and UNC Lab Band. Currently he is Principal Trombonist/Bass Trombonist in the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra and Bass Trombonist in the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra.
