Bassoon/Clarinet Reed Laboratory

In the fall of 2002, Dr. KingSanders received a $4,000 Texas Excellence Fund Grant to establish a Bassoon/Clarinet Reed Laboratory.  The research topic for the grant is "The Affect of Altitude, Humidity, and Temperature on Arundo Donax.  In order to test these variables on reed cane, it was necessary to  purchase reedmaking equipment for both clarinet and bassoon reeds.  The equipment for bassoon reeds is from Mark Popkin and includes a profiler, shaper, micrometer and reed trimmer.  The clarinet reedmaking equipment is designed by Robert Dilutis and includes a planer, reed machine, micrometer and reed trimmer.  Look for lots of bassoon and clarinet reeds in the near future from the Bassoon/Clarinet Applied Studio!
