Personnel Profile

Doug Smith, Communication Specialist/Videographer

Doug Smith

Who I Am

I’m a visual storyteller. My grandmother gave me my first camera for my 7th birthday and I haven’t put one down ever since. I love seeing and doing things so photojournalism was the perfect profession for me. I really started polishing my craft in college radio/tv and continued in broadcast television working as a videographer, chief photographer, live shot operator, video editor and trainer, assignments editor and ultimately a television producer of news broadcasts. On a more personal note, I met the love of life, Dr. Kay Smith (’14), here on campus and we have two GREAT children; Parker and Jenna.

What I do at Texas A&M-Kingsville

I brought my skills and experiences here to promote the value of getting a higher education degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. As a communications specialist, I provide photographic and video-graphic support for the Office of Marketing and Communications through various mediums including local, state and national levels.

My Texas A&M-Kingsville Story

I first stepped foot on this beautiful campus in August of 1977 to watch a former high school classmate play football for the Hoggies in Javelina stadium. A few short years later, I was back there shooting video for the Radio/TV department. In 1986, I got my B.A. degree in Mass Communications with a emphasis on Radio/TV with a minor in Journalism. Years later, being accepted to work here was, and still is, like coming home.
