International Student Services
Transfer Procedures for F-1 Students
To be eligible to transfer to another institution at the same academic degree level, or begin a new degree program, a international student must have maintained immigration status at the former institution.
When a international student attending another institution in the U.S. is admitted to Texas A&M University-Kingsville:
The international student should have submitted a “Student Status Transfer” form completed by the student and the international student advisor at the previous institution indicating that the student has maintained full-time status. This form should be returned to International Admission at TAMUK either by the student or the International Student Advisor of the previous institution. The “Student Status Transfer” form can be downloaded and printed from our website:
www/tamuk.edu/apply.
The international student should advise and work with the previous institution to set a SEVIS Transfer Release date. Many institutions may have available a SEVIS Transfer Release form to complete and submit to the International Student Services Office. Our institution’s name is indicated in the SEVIS System as: Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Be sure to indicate this on the SEVIS release form or letter requesting the transfer release.
International students must process a transfer to Texas A&M University-Kingsville with the SEVIS I-20 within 15 days of beginning classes. International students who fail to apply for a Form I-20 transfer with 15 days of the first day of classes are considered to be ‘out of status’ and must apply for reinstatement.
International students who have been ‘out-of-status’ at their previous institution must apply for a reinstatement to student status through USCIS.
TAMUK students who plan on attending another university in the U.S. should request and complete the “SEVIS Transfer Release” form from International Student Services in order to complete the transfer to the new school’s Form
