OPT

NEW PROCEDURES IN PROCESSING OPT REQUESTS

Students may begin applying for Post-Completion OPT up to 90 days before their program completion date.  **Please note that Program Completion Date may be different from "graduation date."**

Students who are graduating and plan to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) Upon Completion of Studies must attend an online OPT workshop to learn more about applying for OPT. Upon completion of the required online workshop, students can submit their documents to apply, along with the certification proving they have attended the required online workshop.

**Please note: students must attend an OPT workshop before they can submit their documents to apply.**

It is highly recommended that students complete the training early as it can take 3-5 months for USCIS to process applications.

Please allow 7 days for a DSO to review the OPT Application request and for the form I-20 to be issued.

If you have any questions about the online workshop or scheduling an appointment, please contact OISSS at 361-593-3317 or visit the front desk located in Cousin's Hall.
