Executive Board Positions

Spring 2014 Meeting Times

Honors College Student Council meetings are open to all Honors students.  They will be held the first and third Thursday of each month from 5:45pm to 6:45pm.  The meetings will be held in the first floor study room of Mesquite Village West unless otherwise noted.

April 3 and 17

May 3 

Special events and presentations will also be held throughout Spring 2014. See the Honors calendar for that information.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR HOLDING HCSC OFFICER/REPRESENTATIVE POSITIONS:

  1. Must be an student of good standing of the TAMUK Honors College
  2. Must be an Active Member of the HCSC
  3. Must not be on Honors College probation
  4. Must have completed at least one college semester/quarter at any University/College or one-year high school/college dual enrollment
  5. Must be enrolled at TAMUK at least 06 credit hours for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters)
  6. College Representatives can only run for the college of their first major.

HCSC EXECUTIVE BOARD OFFICES:

President: 

Duties:  Oversees the HC Student Council, runs meetings, represents the Council at events on and off campus, and serves as Parliamentarian.

Term:  This is a one year term.  This position has voting status in case of a tie.

            Open to:  The HCSC student holding the position of President-Elect the previous academic year

President-Elect:

Duties:  Runs meetings in President’s absence, oversees committees and tracks committee project deadlines. 

Term:  Must be able to serve as President-Elect first academic year elected and as President in the next academic year.  Person holding the President-elect office automatically moves up to President the next year without another election.  This position has voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees must have Sophomore or Junior in year served as President-Elect and be able to serve as President the following year. (See Classification of Students below)

Secretary:

Duties:  Records minutes for HCSC meetings, collects committee reports, and tracks member participation at events/meetings. 

Term:  This is a one year term.  This position has voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees holding Sophomore, Junior or Senior status in the year of office. (See Classification of Students below)

Treasurer:

Duties:  Keeps the financial records for the HC Student Council and if fund-raising is performed, collects the funds, processes the deposit and initiates needed payments.  Tracks inventory of items used as fund-raiser. 

Term:  This is a one year term.  This position has voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees holding Sophomore, Junior or Senior status in the year of office. (See Classification of Students below)

Historian:

Duties:  Helps keep the historical records for the HC Student Council, takes pictures at events, oversees the HCSC Newsletter, collects information for HC Facebook page, and works closely with the Advisor on the storage of historical data.

Term:  This is a one year term.  This position has voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees holding Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior status in the year of office. (See Classification of Students below)


College Representatives:

One each from:

Dick & Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and

Human Sciences

            College of Arts and Sciences

            College of Business Administration

            College of Education and Human Performance

            Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering

Duties:  Serves as representatives to the Executive Board; may serve as Chair of a Committee. 

Term:  These are each a one year term. These positions have voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees holding Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior status in the year of office. (See Classification of Students below)

Representatives At-Large:

Two Underclassmen (0-59 Hours)

Two Upperclassmen (60 hours +) 

Duties:  Serves as representatives to the Executive Board; may serve as Chair of a Committee. 

            Term:  These are each a one year term. These positions have voting status.

            Open to:  Nominees holding Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior status in the year of office. (See Classification of Students below)

Classification of Students:

Freshmen:        1 to 29 semester hours of undergraduate credit

Sophomore:     29 to 59 semester hours of undergraduate credit

Junior:             60 to 89 semester hours of undergraduate credit

Senior:             90 + semester hours of undergraduate credit

NOTE:  This is based on overall credits (includes transfer and dual-enrollment).
