Texas Be On Time Loan
Texas Be On Time loans were authorized by the 78th Texas Legislature to provide eligible Texas students with no-interest loans. These loans were created as an incentive for students to maintain high academic standards and complete their degree program within the recommended time frame. The loan will be forgiven if students meet the necessary requirements.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a Texas resident
- Must have graduated 2002-2003 academic year or later, under the recommended high school program from public or accredited private schools in Texas or received an associate's degree from an eligible institution no earlier than May 1, 2005
- Must not have earned a bachelor's degree
- Must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate degree or certificate program at an eligible institution.
- Must have completed a FAFSA and be eligible to receive federal financial aid.
RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS
To maintain eligibility for future disbursements, the student must:
- In the 1st Academic Year - make satisfactory progress toward a degree or certificate as determined by the institution.
- In the 2nd and Subsequent Academic Years - complete at least 75% of the semester credit hours attempted in the most recent academic year and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) on all coursework previously attempted at an institution of higher learning.
- A student may not receive BOT loans for more than 150 hours.
HARDSHIP POLICIES
Students have the opportunity to appeal their loss of eligibility if they have mitigating circumstances. The request should be submitted along with the SAP request/appeal procedures. The petition should address what occurred to cause non-compliance with the Satisfactory Academic Policy. However, the submission of such request does not imply that eligibility will be reinstated.
The approval of such a request will include additional conditions that must be met within the academic year/semester.
