Sick Leave Pool

A sick leave pool has been established for all eligible employees who have exhausted their sick leave and vacation leave due to a catastrophic illness or injury, which would otherwise force the employee to lose income from the State. For this purpose, a catastrophic illness or injury is a severe condition or combination of conditions affecting the mental or physical health of the employee, or the employee's immediate family and that requires the services of a licensed practitioner for a prolonged period of time (160 hours). The maximum benefit is 1/3 of the pool balance or up to ninety days. The employee need not be absent from work for 160 consecutive hours from doctor’s notification (SAGO Policy 31.06.01).
