Jury Duty Leave
Texas A&M University-Kingsville recognizes that employees are legally required to serve jury duty. A leave of absence, with pay, for jury duty is intended to give an employee protection against a reduction in earnings caused by absence due to requirements of jury duty service. Paid leaves are not an earned or accrued benefit to employees, but are intended for the security of employees.
In the event an employee is called to jury duty service, the employee will receive regular compensation while serving. Part time employees will be paid for hours that would be considered part of their normal work day/week.
An employee called to jury duty may keep any payment received from the appointed court in addition to regular compensation.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville reserves the right to request proof of an employee's requirement to attend jury duty service. Failure by an employee to provide requested documentation of their jury duty service and/or deception on the part of the employee may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
