August 6, 2016 Commencement

The August 6, 2016 Commencement exercises will be held in the Steinke Physical Education Center on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.  Seating will be reserved for degree candidates and faculty; seating of all guests, however, will be on an unreserved, first-come, first-serve basis.

Live streaming is unavailable during summer commencements.

Graduates and Guests:

We are so proud to host you for the special occasion of your graduation which will take place in the Steinke Physical Education Center at Saturday, August 6.  This map indicates the preferred areas for parking on the day of the Commencement exercises.

The University will close Avenue B from Armstrong Avenue to Lantana Street to allow to allow one-way traffic (east to west bound) to drop off guests at the front door of the Steinke Physical Education Center (SPEC) only.  No parking or in-and-out traffic will be allowed on that street between midnight and 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 to provide a safe pedestrian environment for Commencement.  The University’s Blue and Gold Express Shuttle Bus will make stops in the marked parking lot areas before and immediately following the Commencement ceremony to provide transportation to and from vehicles for those who would prefer to ride to the SPEC.

Graduates:  Please enter the SPEC through the North entrances nearest the Javelina Stadium in order cut down on front door traffic.  Candidates will assemble in the Steinke Physical Education  Center ONE hour prior to graduation, Saturday, August 6. There will be NO university-wide rehearsal. Check with your respective college to determine if a rehearsal is planned.

Engineering Graduates:  Please prepare to meet as directed at the Engineering Complex.

Guests:  Please enter the SPEC through the South entrances which are the main doors to the Gym.  Programs will be available at this main entrance.

Following Commencement exercises, please do not block exits to the Steinke Physical Education Center.  We encourage you to take your photographs with your family at your favorite locations around campus, but not in the entry way to the SPEC because of the large number of guests, especially those with mobility issues, who are attempting to exit the facility.

Thank you for your attention to these directions.  UPD officers will be available to remind you of directions on the day of Commencement.

Again, best wishes on this exciting day and all the best in your future!

Senior Vice President for Fiscal and Student Affairs
