Gallery schedule for 2013-14 released by A&M-Kingsville

The art, communications and theatre department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville has announced the schedule for exhibits in the Ben Bailey Art Gallery and other locations throughout the community. All exhibits listed are in the Bailey Gallery and are free unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, Sept. 12-Thursday, Oct. 17—Portraits of America features the works of nationally recognized portrait artist Lionel Sosa. The closing reception will be Oct. 17, and the curator is Jesus de la Rosa, assistant professor of art and coordinator of the Ben Bailey Art Gallery.

Thursday, Oct. 24-Thursday, Nov. 14—Lullwood Group Collaborative, an artist collective in San Antonio, will have work on display with the opening reception Oct. 24. De la Rosa is the curator.

Thursday, Nov. 21-Wednesday, Dec. 18—Kingsville Inksville II is a printmaking exhibition. The opening reception will be Friday, Nov. 22 with de la Rosa as the curator. The opening is part of the Ranch Hand Weekend Festival.

Friday, Nov. 22-Thursday, Dec. 12—The Senior Exhibit for students earning their bachelor’s degree in fine arts will be held at the Henrietta Memorial Center for the weekend of the Ranch Hand Festival. A reception will be held Nov. 22 at the Henrietta Memorial Center. Following the festival weekend, the exhibit will move to the Bailey Gallery. The curator is Dr. Todd Lucas, associate professor of art.

Saturday, Nov. 23—Several faculty members from the art department will be participating in the making of Steam Roller Prints. Printing will be done live from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Javelina Innovation Lab, 231 Kleberg St. in Historic Downtown Kingsville. The curators are de la Rosa, Lucas and Fulden Wissinger, lecturer of art.

Saturday, Nov. 23—The Trail Blazers Alumni Printmaking Exhibition will be held at the Javelina Innovation Lab during the Ranch Hand Weekend Festival. A reception will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Curators are de la Rosa, Fulden Wissinger and Greg Rubio, adjunct lecturer of art.

Monday, Jan. 13-Friday, Feb. 28—Young Masters will present selected recent art graduates for an exhibit. The reception will be Thursday, Jan. 23. Fulden Wissinger is the curator.

Thursday, March 13-Saturday, April 12—Ben and Ana Valera present Nopalitos, Tostones y Café, with an opening reception March 13. This exhibit is curated by Chuck and Fulden Wissinger; Chuck Wissinger is the art program director at A&M-Kingsville and associate professor of art.

Tuesday, April 22-Friday, May 9—A Juried Student Exhibition will feature selected university art students. The date for a reception and awards banquet will be announced at a later date. Curators are Fulden Wissinger, Rubio and Santa Barraza, professor of art.
