Development of Roadside Landscapes
Faculty and staff at the South Texas Environmental Institute (STEI) at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and researchers at the Texas Transportation Institute in College Station, Texas are collaborating to extensively research and develop a methodology for the design of sustainable roadside landscapes for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
This project will focus on the development of techniques and approaches to restore urban soils, quickly establish drought tolerant vegetation, minimize soil erosion, allow for less toxic weed control and conserve water resources for roadside projects in Texas.
The landscape approaches selected for the program will enhance the environmental, financial benefits and social acceptance of the restored areas.
Project partners include the Texas Transportation Institute and the Houston TxDOT District Office
