Basic Research Components
CREST-RESSACA consists of the following three basic research components:
|
-
Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (EMA)
The EMA subproject is focusing on improving fundamental understanding of scale-dependent behavior of water and air pollutants including heavy metals, pesticides, and air pollutants within a shared multimedia environment in semi-arid lands and shorelines by collecting high-quality environmental monitoring data and providing subsequent comprehensive assessment.
-
Environmental Modeling and Informatics (EMI)
The primary goal of the Environmental Modeling and Informatics (EMI) sub-project is to utilize state-of-the-art mathematical tools and techniques to develop decision support tools for fostering environmental sustainability in coastal semi-arid areas.
-
Sustainable Technologies for the Environment (STE)
STE's main goal is to develop innovative products stressing reuse and processing of natural and recycled materials while reducing pollution in a variety of applications. The broad STE theme is air and water resource purification coupled with energy conservation and production through improved process technology.
