ME undergraduate student Moiz Butt and Cavazos Omar have been selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at Gaithersburg, MD for their 2017 SURF (summer undergraduate research fellowship) program. Each student received $9,636 to cover stipend, housing, and transportation. Both students will conduct cutting edge research for NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR). This is the second year TAMUK sends applications to NIST, and 2 out of 11 were selected. If you are interested in applying 2018 NIST SURF program, please contact Dr. Xue Yang (university contact at TAMUK) in December or early January. NIST SURF program is open to all STEM majors.

Congratulations to our ANS Student Section for securing the highest recruitment percentage in the 2017 ANS Student Member-Get-A-Member campaign nationally!

The TAMUK American Nuclear Society (ANS) student chapter received the national acknowledgement from ANS for the “Top Student Section-Highest Number of New Students Recruited in the 2017 ANS Student Member-Get-A-Member campaign” nationally. The president of the TAMUK ANS Student chapter, Abdullah Weiss, a ME Senior, is recognized as the “Top Individual Recruiter od Student Members”. Please have a look at the awards letter here.

The national president of ANS, Dr. Andy Klein, professor of nuclear engineering at Oregon State University, will visit TAMUK to present trophies and certificates in the evening of April 26. The ANS will fund a pizza party at that time. http://ne.oregonstate.edu/andrew-c-klein
