Outstanding Academic Achievement

Alpha Lambda Delta is the National Honor Society that recognizes outstanding academic achievement in the first-year of study at a four-year institution.   Membership in Alpha Lambda Delta is open to full-time students who rank in the top 20% of their class during their first year at a four-year university.  A minimum GPA of 3.50 is also required. Monday, March 4, 2019 the Texas A&M University-Kingsville chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta welcomes 42 new members.  We are honoring students whose first year on the TAMUK campus was 2017/2018. This year’s new TAMUK members have an average grade point average of 3.92; half of them had a perfect 4.00.

In 17/18, the 42 students (credit hour-wise) were:

06 Freshmen,

17 Sophomores,

12 Juniors, and

06 Seniors.

And they represent all six undergraduate colleges including the Honors College. Monday’s ceremony will also honor 21 current members who are graduating in Spring or Summer 2019.

Below is a list of the ALD students from your college.  The ceremony is from 5:30 to 6:30 in Ballroom A.  Please share this information within your college.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Congratulations to ME undergraduates Abdullah Weiss, Moiz Butt, along with their advisor Dr. Xue Yang, for having their article entitled Neutron Moderation Analysis for a Fusion-based Neutron Source accepted by the 2018 American Nuclear Society Annual Meeting!

ME undergraduates Abdullah Weiss and Cavazos Omar, and CHEN undergraduate Alexa Cano have been selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at Gaithersburg, MD for their 2018 SURF (summer undergraduate research fellowship) program! Each student received $9,219 to cover stipend ($5,500), housing, and transportation. All students will conduct cutting edge research for the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR). This is the third year TAMUK sent applications to NIST, and 4 out of 9 were selected (one declined the offer). If you are interested in applying 2019 NIST SURF program, please contact Dr. Xue Yang (university contact at TAMUK) in December or early January. The NIST SURF program is open to all STEM majors.
