Dr. Lifford Mclauchlan, Assistant Chair and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering

Dr. Lifford Mclauchlan

Dr. Lifford McLauchlan completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station. He is an associate professor at Texas A&M University -Kingsville in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has previously worked for Raytheon, Microvision, and AT&TBell Labs. He has been awarded the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Summer Faculty Fellowship five times and has been named an ONR Distinguished Summer Faculty Fellow four of those five years. Dr. McLauchlan has three patents.

Teaching: Dr. McLauchlan has taught or is teaching the following undergraduate and graduate courses at Texas A&M University-Kingsville: Microprocessor Based Control,Introduction to Image Processing and Biometrics, Computer Architecture and Design,Linear Control Systems, Advanced Computer Architecture, Electronic System Design,Introduction to Electrical Engineering, Engineering as a Career, Learning in a Global Context I, Adaptive Controls, Communications Engineering, Digital Signal Processing, Graduate Research Project, and Thesis. While at Texas A&M University at College Station, he also taught Electrical Circuits and Instrumentation, Introduction to Digital Design, and Introduction to Digital Systems Design.

Research and Scholarship: Dr. McLauchlan has numerous publications and presentations covering adaptive and intelligent controls, robotics, ocean wave energy conversion, green technology, education, signal and image processing, biometrics and watermarking. Dr. McLauchlan has also had three patents issued related to scanning mirror control and closed loop laser control systems for a pico projector. He is currently working on robotics, multi-agent system modeling, RF/intelligent sensors and hyperspectral sensor data fusion research. Dr. McLauchlan has been a member of various international conference program committees and reviews papers for numerous conferences and journals.

Administrative Experience and Service Activities: Dr. McLauchlan is a member of ASEE, IEEE (senior member), SPIE, Eta Kappa Nu, and Tau Beta Pi. He was a coexecutive director for the Coastal Bend Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology (BEST) Hub from 2005-2011. Dr. McLauchlan has served on the IEEE Corpus Christi Section Board from 2004-2012 as Chair (twice), Vice Chair (3 times), Secretary (3times), and Director and is the current ASEE Ocean and Marine Engineering Division Chair. He has served on numerous university, college and department committees and groups. Dr. McLauchlan received the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2010 for the College of Engineering.

Research Interest: Controls, Adaptive Controls, Nonlinear Controls, Image and Signal Processing, Digital Watermarking, Intelligent and Multi-agent Systems, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Biometrics, Sensors, Data Fusion and Robotics
