B.S. in Education

A Bachelor of Science in Education prepares you for a teaching career in the grade level and subject area of your choice. In our department, we offer teacher certification in:

We also offer certifications in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Communications, Family and Consumer Science, History, Journalism, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Social Studies, Spanish, and Theater Arts. Alternative Certification Program

Our Alternative Certification Program (ACP) offers a nontraditional route to certification designated for individuals who already hold a Bachelors degree. Please see the Center for Educator Preparation Services (CEPS) page for more information.

Master’s Level Programs

We offer five programs at the Master's Level:

Doctorate in Bilingual Education

We also offer a doctorate in Bilingual Education (the first doctoral program in the nation in Bilingual Education).

Welcome to the Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education. The Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education is rooted in a rich learning environment that offers students with the opportunity to demonstrate subject matter knowledge and an understanding of effective teaching and learning practices. This ensures foundational preparation that readies them to enter the field of education as certified teachers. Through a systemic programmatic approach, the Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education’s quality undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs prepare students and practicing educators to meet the increasing demands of a rigorous Texas academic accountability system. This is made possible through the dedication and expertise of highly effective faculty members who strive to ensure the needs of their students are met via a curriculum system that is aligned to standards, utilization of quality instructional practices, and varied types of assessment processes. The Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education falls under the overarching umbrella of the College of Education and Human Performance. We offer 12 undergraduate teacher preparation program areas. For students and practitioners seeking to earn advanced degrees, our programs are designed to meet the competencies that support current work and future career goal attainment. Students can select from five specialized master's programs, and the nation's first bilingual education doctoral program.
