ROTC Scholarships


The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Military Science Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance for quality students who have achieved academic excellence. To help you meet the rising costs of education, Army ROTC offers a variety of scholarships for incoming freshmen, current students, or even graduate or post-graduate students.

When awarded a scholarship some of the benefits that you are eligible for include:

  • 100% tuition and mandatory educational fees OR  Room and Board up to $5,000 each semester
  • A tax-free stipend of $420 a month
  • $1,200 tax-free each year for textbooks

Four Year Scholarship

You may be eligible for a four-year scholarship if you are preparing to enter college as a freshman and meet the following qualifications/requirements:

  • Be a United States Citizen.
  • Be 17 years old before the scholarship is effective.
  • Take the SAT or ACT no later than November of the year you apply (must have a minimum 1000 SAT score or composite 19 ACT score).
  • High School GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Participate in leadership, extracurricular and athletic activities. (Students with part-time jobs will be given substitute credit.)
  • Be under 31 years old on December 31 of the year you expect to graduate and receive your officer's commission.
  • Be a high school graduate or have equivalent credit.
  • Pursue an Army approved academic major.
  • Agree to accept a commission as either a Regular Army Officer, Army National Guard Officer, or U.S. Army Reserve Officer.
  • Meet required physical standards.

Three Year Scholarship

You may be eligible for a three-year scholarship if you have already completed one semester of college. In addition you must meet the following qualifications/requirements:

  • Meet the same citizenship, age and physical requirements listed for the four-year scholarship.
  • Meet the required grade point average minimum of 2.5 in all academic courses.
  • Be recommended by the Professor of Military Science.

Two Year Scholarship

You may be eligible for a two-year scholarship if you have already completed at least two years of college, to include completing your undergraduate studies and pursuing a graduate degree. In addition you must meet the following qualifications/requirements:

  • Meet the same citizenship, age and physical requirements listed for the four-year scholarship.
  • Meet the required grade point average minimum of 2.5 in all academic courses.
  • Be recommended by the Professor of Military Science.

Ed Rachal Scholarship

Each semester the top four cadets at each academic level are awarded $1,500 from the Ed Rachal Foundation.  This scholarship does not incur any military obligation and is available to all cadets based solely on merit.  Factors such as your GPA, participation in student activities, physical fitness level, and cadre evaluation make you competitive to receive this scholarship.

Roberto and Trauterose Montoya Scholarships

one for each class level with freshmen/sophomores being up to $10,000

LTG Ricardo Sanchez Scholarship

Junior/Seniors of approximately $1,500 awarded

COL Edward Preston Scholarship

approximately $1,000 awarded per year

TAMUK President Scholarships

Awarded to incoming Freshmen, Three awarded each semester up to $3,333
