The Role of Mentors

An effective mentor can help you

  • get an email address
  • get necessary keys
  • order supplies
  • fill out faculty leave request forms and get reimbursed for professional travel
  • learn about the review process

Ask your mentor to help you

  • enhance your teaching effectiveness
    • attend retreat for new faculty and mentors
    • attend workshops for new faculty
    • look over syllabi and provide feedback
    • invite you to observe them teaching
    • discuss effective teaching techniques
    • read and discuss articles and books about teaching
    • help you interpret student evaluations
  • with decisions about benefit options, including retirement

Expect your mentor to

  • invite you to lunch
  • invite you to campus events to meet colleagues
