STAAR Preparation Program
Beginning in spring 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). The STAAR program at grades 3–8 will assess the same subjects and grades that are currently assessed on TAKS. At high school, however, grade-specific assessments will be replaced with 12 end-of-course (EOC) assessments: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history, and U.S. history.
The STAAR program is designed to help students (grades 5th – 9th) prepare for the required end of the year testing implemented by the state to determine their eligibility of graduating to the next grade. The STAAR test will be introduced in the 2011-2012 academic year and proctored to grades 3rd- 8th and 9th grade for high school students. The STAAR program is held beginning Mid-February through the month of April to provide a review for the STAAR testing in an intimate group setting. Each grade will consist of 5 students to a group that is led by an academic tutor specializing in that grade. Academic tutors will provide practice testing, diagnose and focus on areas of strength and weakness for the students to further their practice on, as well as teach time management skills, test-taking tips and strategies.
There will be 3 programs to aid each of the different grade levels. The 1st program will be held starting February 20, 2012-March 23rd, 2012; Tuesday and Wednesday in the evenings starting at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with each day geared towards a specific subject matter. The 2nd program will be held starting March 26, 2012 – April 19th, 2012; Monday – Wednesday in the evenings starting at 6:00 p.m. –8:00 p.m. . The 3rd program will be held starting April 09, 2012-May 03, 2012; Monday and Tuesday in the evening starting at 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
