Beginning in spring 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). The STAAR program at grades 3–8 will assess the same subjects and grades that are currently assessed on TAKS. At high school, however, grade-specific assessments will be replaced with 12 end-of-course (EOC) assessments: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history, and U.S. history.

The STAAR Preparation program is designed to help students ( 5th – 8th grade) prepare for the required end of the year testing implemented by Texas’s State Board of Education (SBOE) to the Independent School Districts in determining a student’s eligibility to graduate to the next grade level. 

The four (4) week program is held once a week with two (2) hour sessions covering the specific topics of the subjects (Math, Reading, Science & Writing) that will be presented on the test for that grade level. Sessions are held in a small group setting with trained Academic tutors in the specific subject areas. Students benefit by learning in a stress-free environment that reduces test anxiety and allows them to focus on the materials that is being reviewed.  

Academic tutors will provide practice testing, diagnosis and focus on areas of weakness, as well as teaching time management skills, test-taking tips and strategies.
