Sodium is abundant in the sun and stars and it is the sixth most abundant element on earth.  Sodium is very reactive and never found free in nature.  It can be very dangerous if it is handled improperly.  Salt (NaCl) and baking soda (NaHCO3), compounds of sodium, are the most notably forms.
