Vaquelin discovered Chromium in 1797 and then prepared the metal the following year. Chromium is a steel-gray metal that will take a high polish.  It is used to harden steel, which is used to make stainless steel, and other useful item and helps them for corrosion.  Chromium is used as a mordant in the textile industry.
