Albertus Magnus obtained arsenic in 1250 A.D. Exposure to Arsenic and its compounds should be limited.  Many of the compounds of Arsenic has been used for agricultural insecticides and poisons.  Gallium arsenide is used as a laser material to convert electricity directly into coherent light.
