The
Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s and women’s track teams are
proving that they are saving the best for last, posting 15 season-best
marks and adding another NCAA provisional qualifier at the Rice University
Twilight Meet in Houston.
Freshman Raquel Tidwell (Katy Cinco Ranch) ran a season best time of 2:13.93,
nearly five seconds better than her previous best time, and bettered the
provisional qualifying time of 2:14.00. Her time also set a new school
record in the event, breaking the old mark of 2:14.24 set by Willa Mae
Scott in 1979.
Sophomore Rene Garcia (H.M. King) won the 400-meter dash in a time of
47.87, beating three runners from Texas A&M in the process.
Freshman Diana Zarate (San Louis Potosi, Mexico) won the 400-meter hurdles
in a season best time of 1:03.59, missing the NCAA Championships provisional
qualifying time by just under three tenths of a second.
The Javelinas will head to Commerce, Texas next weekend to take part in
the Lone Star Conference Championships.
