The
Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina football team completed their spring
drills last Tuesday night with a 45-minute scrimmage.
Four different quarterbacks got snaps as Cory Miles (Oxnard, Calif.),
David Garza (Laredo United), Freddie Brown (Houston Eisenhower) and Eric
Goodman (Anahuac) all saw action.
Miles, who sat out last year after sharing starting quarterback duties
with Joey Pena in 2005, was the most effective, completing 3-of-7 passes
for 40 yards and had a carry for 10 yards.
He led the offense on a nine-play, 47-yard drive that culminated in a
32-yard field goal by Scott Schlebach (Arlington Seguin).
Senior defensive end Curt Jones (Sinton), who also sat out the 2006 season,
was the star, recording two quarterback sacks.
Overall, Baxter is impressed with the progress his team has made over
the past month.
“The foundation is here and we just need to put some pillars to
that foundation. We’re not where we need to be, but were a lot closer
than we were 15 practices ago.”
