Management Major

Management is a coordination and leadership process driven by members of an organization. Managers set and communicate the strategy of an organization, and coordinate the efforts of its employees. An overarching management goal is the efficient and effective coordination and placement of resources in order to meet and exceed organizational goals. Deployment and manipulation of resources by managers include human, financial, information, technological, and natural resources, among others. 

Careers in management span across all industries and organization functional areas, for organizations large and small. Management degrees can be applied to a variety of careers, from retail, to financial services, operations, small business, family business, and even entrepreneurial/business owners pursuits.

As a management student, you will learn to:

  • Critically analyze management-related problems, identify appropriate solutions, review courses of action, and make recommendations
  • Locate, select, and place qualified employees
  • Evaluate and manage employee performance
  • Efficiently and effectively place organizational resources
  • Monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services
  • Develop operational strategies to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders to achieve overall organizational goals
