arrowCBA Alumnus Named to Academic      
       All-America Baseball Third Team

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Chris Ballou, who just completed his degree and eligibility with the Javelinas, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Baseball Third Team it was announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Ballou earned his bachelor’s degree in management with a 3.58 grade-point average entering the spring semester. He hopes to turn the degree into a position in the front office of a professional baseball team. The senior batted a team-best .377 and finished amongst the Lone Star Conference’s top 10 hitters in the regular season. He finished second on the team with 94 total bases, and was third in RBI with 36 and doubles with 11.

      Rising Star

Adria Vasquez, Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance, has been selected as a TSCPA Rising Star! The Rising Stars will be honored at the upcoming Annual Meeting of Members. The Awards Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, June 28 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Caesars Palace Las Vegas. The Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional organization representing Texas CPAs. TSCPA has 20 local chapters statewide and has 29,000 members. The Society is committed to serving the public interest with programs that advance the highest standards of ethics and practice within the CPA profession. Congratulations, Adria!

arrowSummer Internships More than Double

The internship program in the College of Business Administration is reaching new heights this year. Coordinator Lori Urbanovsky reported that internship hires have more than doubled this year with 22 students for this summer alone. All CBA students are required to complete all four Student Professional Development Program classes to qualify for an internship. This program teaches them professional skills for real-world application. Our students are also encouraged to utilize the Office of Career Services by taking part in Resume Walk-ups and Mock Interviews to prepare them for the business world.
